Imagine a tropical beach, beautiful and secluded, accessible to the outside world only by boat…

The glorious setting for this Thai hideaway is just about as tropical as can be imagined. Accessible only by boat, Rayavadee is a stunning luxury resort located amongst the beauty of Krabi’s National Marine Park. The nearest airport to Rayavadee pier is Krabi which is a 20-minute complimentary drive and once at the pier, a short speed boat transfer awaits. Phuket airport is 2 hours away. What started as a few cottages on a remote beach decades ago soon became one of the plushest resorts on Krabi. Nature gave this Krabi boutique hotel three white-sand beaches and cinematic limestone cliff-sides, but it’s the Rayavadee’s owners that have given it four gorgeous restaurants, lush landscaped gardens and a reputation for all-out tropical indulgence. While the resort’s 96 two-storey pavilions and five villas are indulgent and opulent, they still resonate with the local Southern Thai architecture and blend seamlessly with the foliage and coconut groves they are set amidst. Rayavadee has four restaurants with various menu styles, from international dishes and Thai specialities. The spa offers an extensive range of treatments, massages and therapies to blissfully transport into a world of peace and relaxation. The main infinity pool is also a scenic spot to chill, and provides a relaxing escape from the beach which can get quite busy with day trippers. Non-motorised water sports are offered to frolic in the surrounding crystal clear waters, in addition to rock climbing, exploring the marine reserve with its shoals of tropical fish and treks in the lush forested interior.

Facilities

Even a tropical castaway needs some indulgent treats.

Amazingly, Rayavadee boasts three beautiful beaches. The tide-sensitive Nammao is the almost exclusive one, scenic Railay Beach is all powder white sand and emerald sea where the local long-tail boats draw up and disgorge day-tripping tourists and Phranang, with its drama of limestone cliffs rising from the edges is the perfect sunset spot.

The resort is a vast 26-acres, but there are soundless golf buggies to whisk guests up and down trails replete with tropical plants, spectacled langurs and koi-filled ponds.

Krua Phranang is the fine-dining restaurant that offers the most exquisite Thai cuisine and features mood lighting and ancient Thai artefacts. The Grotto, meanwhile, set in a craggy cave with sand underfoot, is great for pre-dinner sundowners. The spectacular sunset from here is better than any dinner show.

The spacious monkey-themed spa offers some really relaxing and rejuvenating therapies but for an authentic, invigorating experience, the classic Thai massage is an experience.

A swimming pool, tennis court, squash court and table tennis are available too.

  • Around 45 minutes from Krabi airport via van and boat
  • 96 pavilions and 5 villas
  • 3 distinctly different beaches
  • Swimming pool
  • 4 restaurants plus bars
  • Spa
  • Watersports and excursions

Accommodation

Encapsulating the essence of traditional Thai houses.

All of Rayavadee’s 98 pavilions have a spacious living room downstairs and a bedroom and bathroom upstairs. Luxuriously appointed and furnished in an elegant, tropical Thai style with polished woods, brightly coloured fabrics and hand crafted details. Bedrooms showcase stunning sea views framed by wraparound floor-to-ceiling windows. Each pavilion has its own little garden, some of which have small pools. The circular design of the buildings echos the rounded cliffs of the rock formations that characterise the area’s unique landscape.

All feature king-sized beds with high thread-count linens, flat screen satellite TV with DVD/CD player and wireless internet service. Slippers and bathrobes as well as tea and coffee making facilities plus pampering skincare products from Pañpuri. Bathrooms give the option to shower quickly or soak under the skylight in an egg shell-shaped bath-tub.
