The Grand Old Dame of Marrakech is still as hypnotic and mesmerising as she was almost 100 years ago.

One of Morocco's most iconic and legendary hotels, La Mamounia is located in the centre of Marrakech, across from Koutoubia Mosque and just moments away from Jemaa el-Fnaa Square, offers the sophisticated luxury and comfort of a grand five-star palace hotel. Opened in 1923 but with a history that dates back to the 12th century, La Mamounia has been built in an opulent and traditional Moorish style with wood, Tadelakt, zellige tiles and lattice metalwork, subtly enhanced by Art Deco and Oriental flourishes. The stunning design combined with fabulous food and discreet, attentive service ensures an utterly unforgettable stay. Despite its proximity to the medina, guests will feel a million miles from the busy streets of the Old City thanks to the hotel's tranquil gardens, originally gifted to Prince Al Mamoun as a wedding present in the 18th century. The room and suites boast incredible views of the gardens, the Atlas Mountains and the Koutoubia Mosque, and each are individually designed. Food is truly exceptional and of a consistent standard throughout the hotel’s four restaurants. Guests looking to relax can unwind in La Mamounia's fantastic spa with a selection of revitalising treatments after a day exploring the winding streets of the medina.

Facilities

Upmarket and indulgent delights to contrast with Marrakech’s enchanting, frenetic chaos.

There are four restaurants at La Mamounia, all of whom use fresh ingredients from the hotel’s organic vegetable garden. Le Marocain is the hotel’s masterpiece, serving modern Moroccan cuisine; the formal Le Français offering gourmet French cuisine and L’Italien is more theatrical with a menu was created by a two-Michelin-starred chef. Le Pavilion de la Piscine offers pool-side lunches and delectable evening cocktails.

The four bars have very distinct and different ambiances. Le Churchill, named after its most famous patron has a mellow jazz vibe but the most romantic is the Italian Bar, with beautiful hand painted Majorelle ceiling and terrace looking out over the lush gardens.

These walled gardens, adorned with fragrant flowers, shrubs, olive and orange trees are an attraction in themselves; the two pools make for a blessed retreat from the heat of the day and the Spa at La Mamounia offers guests an exotic selection of hammam and traditional treatments. For those who want to win back the cost of their holiday, there is a casino onsite.

The sights, sounds and smells of captivating Marrakech medina are just around the corner.
