Where other nearby 5-stars shout about their opulence, Mandarin Oriental Marrakech whispers it…. seductively.

Surrounded by fifty acres of olive groves, palms and verdant, lush gardens; with the Atlas Mountains as a backdrop, the Mandarin Oriental is a divine resort just a short 10 minute drive away from the medina and madness of Marrakech. Astonishingly, for a property set in so much land, there are just 54 villas, 7 first-floor suites and 2 infinity pool spa suites.

The designers have carefully fused contemporary architecture with Moorish charm, with thoughtful Berber influences and riad inspired courtyards, resulting in a glorious resort that is a new modern, desert-coloured, Moroccan style.

With a selection of restaurants, there are some joyous culinary highlights. Ling Ling by Hakkasan attracts a stylish crowd, and offers an intriguing Asian ‘Izakaya’ style, where food is served to accompany the drinks. Mes'Lalla serves traditional Moroccan cuisine with a contemporary twist. An extra twist is that, unusually for any Muslim country, the head chef - Moroccan chef Meryem Cherkaou - is a woman.

Any property that needs free bikes to explore the grounds is impressive. Mandarin Oriental is a destination upon itself in Marrakech that is definitely worth exploring.

Facilities

Every feature is modern and inventive, but also draws on tradition.

The accommodation is so enticing, it would be easy to spend more of the trip holed up in luxurious seclusion. However, the hotel boasts a cathedral-like spa, which offers massage and traditional hammam therapies. The private walled garden offers a serene place in which to unwind and once unwound, there’s a large indoor pool, modern gym, open air yoga sessions and cycling and running trails. The nearby golf courses are perfect for a round with a view.

As well as Ling Ling and Mes’Lalla, the main Le Salon Berbère restaurant offers international food and alfresco Med-influenced Mediterranean lunches and drinks can be enjoyed poolside during the daytime.

Accommodation

Offering serenity and space in a cool, modern Berber and Arab-Andalucian style.

Although smaller than the villas, the seven suites have the benefit of stunning Atlas views and heated terrace plunge pools. The villas are basically mini riads, with the rooms built around a central living space, enclosed by high walls. They offer at least 288m² of space, including a plunge pool and an infinity pool with a built-in jacuzzi, sofa seating around an outdoor fireplace, a small kitchen and a dining table. And that’s just the outdoor space. All rooms are furnished in Mandarin Oriental’s signature palette of cream and mahogany with gorgeous Berber touches. Bathrooms in the villas are palatial with enormous circular baths, and self-contained steam room/showers. Suite bathrooms are similarly demure but with conventional baths.
