The Datai has a veritable feast of the expected facilities such as family and adults-only pools; a well-equipped, beachfront gym; yoga pavilion; bicycle rides; yacht charters; watersports and of course, a fantastic, rustic spa. However, it’s the amenities that capitalise on the surroundings that set this resort apart. A Nature Centre with mini-laboratories allows families to learn about ecology, naturalists lead rainforest treks, permaculture-garden tours provide insights into The Datai’s sincere commitment to sustainability, and resident marine biologists take beach walks on Datai Bay and day and night scuba dives. Nestled between the rainforest and sea, the hotel boasts a par-72 championship golf course at The Els Club Teluk Datai.
The Datai’s restaurants are all in beautiful locations dotted around the resort and serve a delectable range of cuisines. The Gulai House, tucked deep in the rainforest serves Malaysian whilst The Pavilion serves Thai ‘floating’ 30m above the rainforest canopy.
The Beach Club serves sunset cocktail and seafood and for special occasions private candlelit dinners can be arranged on the beach.
Set above a secluded white sandy beach, The Datai rooms, villas and suites are all decorated using natural timbers and premium furnishings. The rooms retain an authentic feel due to the largely wooden interiors whilst simultaneously ooze the sophistication often reserved for modern city hotels. The Datai Langkawi’s rooms, suites and villas are classified by three different locations: ‘The Canopy Collection’ in the main buildings overlooking the rainforest; ‘The Rainforest Collection’ in the jungle near the stream; and ‘The Beach Collection’ adjacent to the Datai Bay’s 1.5 km beach, featuring private pools and dedicated butlers. All accommodation is furnished with facilities and tailor-made amenities in keeping with overall resort sustainability.
