an introduction

Rosewood's first wellness resort has turned Phuket into a serious luxury destination among discerning travelers.

Rosewood Phuket is a 71-room resort that sits on 600 metres of beachfront on the west coast of Thailandโ€™s largest island, just south of Patong. Apparently, it cost more to build than any other resort in Thailand, much of the expense sunk into self sufficient infrastructure to ensure a gold LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) rating.

The design is breezy and the whole resort is spaced out. Free standing bungalows are peppered throughout the hillside, while pools, the spa, and bars and restaurants are positioned to maintain a feeling of connectivity. This set up means guests have a feeling of seclusion, even when the resort is full. Plus the Andaman Sea is visible from everywhere.

There are some fabulous dining options, with each restaurant distinctive and different. Highlight is Ta Khai โ€œFishing netโ€which has a relaxed and rustic setting with fresh seafood and authentic Thai. Overseen by a married couple who had a landmark Phuket restaurant and had never worked for a hotel chain.

The place is utterly gorgeous and ground-breaking for Phuket, transforming the area into an upmarket destination. It doesnโ€™t hurt that flights come in direct from London, Birmingham, Manchester, Dubai and Doha too.

the facilities

Fun in the sun, spa pampering, divine spa treatments and steamy cocktail-fuelled nights.

For starters, thereโ€™s 600 metres of bright-white beach plus a freeform swimming pool merged around palm trees and floating platforms. There’s a fun kids club, with a wooden pirate ship and treasure hunts, plus an excellent fitness centre.

Located on the hillside, the body really is a temple at Rosewood Phuketโ€™s Asaya spa, which is designed to be a true sanctuary for wellness. There are yoga areas, tranquil treatment rooms, a herb laboratory, life and relationship coaching, holistic bodywork therapies and bespoke retreats designed to help guests eat, sleep and generally be happier more well-rounded people. The concierge service offers extraordinary experiences, such as private long-tail boat trips to secret beaches, and visits to the island’s only ethical elephant sanctuary.

Dining is wonderful with sophisticated decor and delicious Italian dishes at Red Sauce; simple seafood and grill options of The Shack and the aforementioned Ta Khai, which is destined to become the โ€œbest destination restaurant in Phuketโ€.ย  Finally, Mai transitions seamlessly from relaxed pool bar by day into sophisticated chill-out lounge after dark.
